Explorers at Dedication Ceremony

The HPD headquarters building was renamed the Houston Police Department Edward A. Thomas Building recently and explorers were present to witness the dedication. Mr. Thomas honorable served 63 years as a member of the department.

Officer Thomas’ more than six decades of hard work and courage paved the way for African American and minority officers at the Houston Police Department. He received numerous awards, commendations and letters of appreciation, and was one of the first African American police officers to integrate into HPD.

Explorers Doing Community Service

South Command (Southeast Post 8300 and South Central Post 2202) explorers paired with Sunnyside End Hunger and the Houston Food Bank at the HPD Sunnyside storefront to pass out fresh fruits and vegetables to the community.

By doing community service projects, explorers learn how to give back to their communities.

Even in the rain, the explorers continued to serve the community.

Movie Matinee

The South Command and Southeast Patrol Interns (Explorers) had an afternoon field trip recently. Explorer advisors took them to see the movie "Max" and have lunch at CiCi's Pizza.

The Law Enforcement Exploring programs work to develop positive relationships between police officers and youth, and extracurricular activities help to build that bond.
